# Work with Finlay

Finlay is your AI recruiter that lives in Slack. Ask about candidates, roles, hiring actions and candidate introductions.

The web app is where you set up Finlay's work and inspect detailed candidate
evidence.

## Start a Slack conversation

After you [connect Slack](https://help.finlay.ai/integrations/slack/), you can DM Finlay to start a
conversation. In a shared channel, mention **@Finlay** when you start a new
conversation. Finlay replies in that thread, so continue there to keep the
job and candidate context together.

If you join someone else's thread, mention **@Finlay** again. In a fresh
thread, include the job or candidate name so Finlay can find the right
context.

## Ask about a role or candidate

Finlay can retrieve job and candidate information, explain the available role
evidence and suggest questions to help assess a candidate. For example:

- `@Finlay What are the strongest reasons to consider Maya Chen for Senior Product Designer?`
- `@Finlay Which requirements should I clarify for the Senior Product Designer role?`
- `@Finlay What is waiting on me for Maya Chen?`

Finlay can also help improve an existing job brief. Create a new job in the
web form, then use [Create a job](https://help.finlay.ai/jobs/create-a-job/) to finish the role and
[Choose your automation level](https://help.finlay.ai/jobs/automation-levels/) to decide what
Finlay handles.

## Ask Finlay to act

Finlay can help update an existing job brief or reject a candidate after you
explicitly confirm the action. For the most detailed candidate history, see
[Review candidates](https://help.finlay.ai/candidates/review-candidates/) in the web app.

## Know which updates reach Slack

Finlay sends different updates to the people responsible for each step:

For candidate introductions, Finlay uses the job's **Job notification
channel** first, then the workspace channel, then **Finlay app DM**. Changing
a channel affects future messages; earlier posts stay in their original
channel.

Finlay joins a public channel when you choose it. For a private channel, add
Finlay to the channel before selecting it. If a channel is unavailable, choose
an accessible channel or **Finlay app DM**, or reconnect Slack. See
